Andreas Maerker, PhD, MD
Andreas Maerker, Prof. Dr., is Professor of Psychopathology and Clinical Intervention at the University of Zurich, where he for 20 years co-directed the Institute’s outpatient clinic. Trained in medicine and psychology in Halle/Saale and Berlin, he earned his MD at Humboldt University and his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development.
A leading authority on trauma, stress-response syndromes, lifespan developmental psychopathology, and cultural clinical psychology, Prof. Maercker has served as principal investigator in numerous international studies and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and 14 books. From 2011–2018, he chaired the WHO working group that revised trauma- and stress-related disorders for the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11).
His pioneering contributions to psychotraumatology and e-mental health have been recognized with Germany’s Federal Cross of Merit and the Wolter de Loos Award for Distinguished Contribution to Psychotraumatology in Europe.
